Barnab was ace with our alcohol licence application. They’re always just a call away, email replies in a flash. They even chatted with the police and council for us. Super efficient and didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Cheers, Barnab!

Barnab was fab from start to finish. Helped us get the plans sorted, dealt with the council, and even sorted out the licence conditions. They kept us updated the whole time, even did the heavy lifting while we were away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose Barnab over other providers?

We are always cheaper and faster. We are a technology company, which is why we can minimise costs and processing times for our users. Our personal licence service is around £50 cheaper than the next best offer. Our premises licence service is £300 cheaper than the next best offer. We also have a 100% success rate, which is rare in this industry!

What is a premises licence?

A premises licence allows your business to sell alcohol, host live or recorded music, show films, and serve hot food and drinks late at night. It is legally required to have this licence if you want to do any of these activities at your business.

What other licences might I need?

If you want to sell alcohol, you or someone on your team will need to have a personal licence. To apply for a premises licence you need to assign someone to act as the Designated Premises Supervisor. A person who will authorise the sale of alcohol.

How long does it take to get a licence?

We can submit the premises licence application in 1 day from when you sign with us. It then takes 28 days for the council to conduct the consultation period. 90% of our clients have their premises licence granted in 5 weeks. The personal licence application (if you need one) can be made at the same time. It normally takes less than a day to submit a personal licence application. It is then granted (we have a 100% success rate) within 1-2 weeks.

How much will this cost?

We have the lowest agent fees on the market. We charge £300 for the premises licence application (inclusive of the premises plan). And £150 for the personal licence application (inclusive of the course & exam). The reason we can be so much cheaper than other providers is because we use technology to optimise the application process and ensure 100% compliance. Humans are less reliable and slower than machines!

What other costs should I expect?

For the personal licence you will need to pay £37 to the council (their processing fee) and £18 to the government when requesting your criminal record check. For the premises licence you will need to pay £190 to the council (could be more or less depending on the size of your property), as well as around £350 to the newspaper when advertising.

Can I do this myself?

You can apply for any licence yourself. You will still need to do a course and pass an exam. The next cheapest course & exam option on the market is around £90. As for the applications to the council, the value of using a service like Barnab is speed and reliability. If you make mistakes in your application, it's quite likely to be rejected.

You can always apply again. But, given the additional costs for the premises licence (newspaper fee and council fee), you don't really want to have to pay this again if your application is rejected.

Our job is to remove the possibility of mistakes. That's why we have a 100% success rate across all licences.

Does it matter which council I am in?

Yes, for you personal licence you must apply to the council where you live. For your premises licence you must apply to the council where your property is located. We help you ensure you've got everything you need before you apply, including instructions on how to submit the application.

What happens if I fail the APLH exam?

Almost everyone passes the exam with just 3-5 hours of self-study. If you fail, you can retake the exam twice for free. 100% of our applicants pass without requiring more resits.

Arrow - Elements Webflow Library - BRIX Templates

Can my application get rejected?

Our success rate is 100% because we create a fully compliant and complete application. However, if you provide information that is untrue, there is a serious risk the application will be rejected. Equally, if you have a criminal record, then your application may be rejected depending on the nature of the offence.

For the premises licence, there is always a risk that the application is rejected by the council. It will then normally go to a licensing committee hearing. In our experience this happens 1% of the times and we have a £500 hearing package you can use to prepare yourself for that hearing (it is designed by the government NOT to require a lawyer to make your case).
