FAQ
How much does it cost?
Our service fee is £84 + VAT for full guidance and document preparation. This includes everything you need to submit a compliant TEN application, as well as the council fee.
How far in advance should I apply?
ou must submit your application at least 10 working days before your event. Ideally, apply earlier to avoid last-minute issues. Late TENs can be submitted 5 working days before the event, but these carry higher risk of objections. We recommend applying 2-3 weeks in advance for peace of mind.
Can I host more than one event?
Yes — individuals can apply for up to 5 TENs per year. Personal licence holders can apply for up to 50 TENs per year. Each TEN covers a single event, so you'll need separate applications for each occasion throughout the year.
Can I apply for a TEN to sell alcohol in a bar?
Yes, you can apply for TENs to licence your bar during busy times while you wait for your premises licence to be granted. We can help you get both TENs and the premises licence! This is a common strategy for new bars to start trading immediately.
What events need a TEN?
You need a TEN if you're selling alcohol, providing late-night refreshment (hot food/drinks between 11pm-5am), or hosting regulated entertainment (live/recorded music, performances, films). Common events include weddings, birthday parties, fundraisers, pop-up bars, corporate events, and community festivals.
Do I need a personal licence to apply for a TEN?
No, you don't need a personal licence to apply. However, if you're selling alcohol, a personal licence holder must be designated as the premises supervisor. If you don't have one, you can name someone who does. We can also help you obtain a personal licence if needed.
How long does the TEN process take?
Once submitted, the police and environmental health have 10 working days to review and potentially object. If there are no objections, your TEN is automatically granted — you don't receive formal approval. With Barnab, we handle the submission and guide you through the entire process to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Can my TEN application be rejected?
Yes, TENs can be objected to by police or environmental health based on concerns about crime prevention, public safety, noise, or child protection. Proper preparation significantly reduces rejection risk — that's where Barnab helps ensure your application is compliant from the start.
What's the difference between a TEN and a premises licence?
A TEN is for temporary, one-off events with quick processing (10 days) and lower cost (£84 per event). A premises licence is permanent and ongoing, costs c.£800, and takes a month to process. TENs are perfect for occasional events, while premises licences suit regular operations like bars and restaurants.
How does Barnab make the TEN process easier?
Instead of confusing council forms, we guide you through a simple conversational chat that asks the right questions in plain English. We then prepare your compliant TEN application and submit it to your local authority. You get expert guidance, accurate documentation, and peace of mind — all for £84.
