Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
How is Barnab's offer so affordable?
We are always cheaper and faster. We are a technology company, which is why we can minimise costs and processing times for our users. Our personal licence service is around £50 cheaper than the next best offer. Our premises licence service is £300 cheaper than the next best offer. We also have a 100% success rate, which is rare in this industry!
What documents do I need to apply for a premises licence?
You’ll need a layout plan, a consent form signed by your proposed Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS), and proof of your right to work in the UK. Don’t worry - we guide you through every step on our application portal!
What’s the difference between a personal licence and a premises licence?
A personal licence allows an individual to sell alcohol. A premises licence allows a specific location (like a shop, café or bar) to sell alcohol. You’ll usually need both — and we can help you get them.
Do I need a plan? What does it need to show?
Yes - your application must include a detailed plan of the venue showing entrances, exits, bar area, kitchen, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, and any outside areas. We’ll create this for you, but we need you to provide an existing plan or a sketch of the premises.
How long does it take to get the licence?
Once submitted, the council takes 28 days to make a decision on your application. We’ll prepare your full application pack within 24 hours, provided that you answer all the questions in the chat and upload a layout plan.
What other costs should I expect?
We are always cheaper and faster. We are a technology company, which is why we can minimise costs and processing times for our users. Our personal licence service is around £50 cheaper than the next best offer. Our premises licence service is £300 cheaper than the next best offer. We also have a 100% success rate, which is rare in this industry!
Do I have to advertise in a newspaper?
Yes - the law requires you to display a notice outside your venue and place an ad in a local newspaper. We will connect you with our advertising partner, who will send a quote directly to you.
How much does the council charge?
The council usually charges £190, but the fee depends on your venue’s rateable value. We’ll confirm the exact amount before submission.
What happens if someone objects to my application? What does it mean?
When an objection is raised, the council will inform you and encourage you to resolve it by agreeing to additional conditions. This is common, and we can help you manage the process and respond quickly to avoid delays.
Can my application get rejected?
For the premises licence, your application may be objected to by members of the public or responsible authorities (e.g. the police or council) during the 28-day consultation period. It will then normally go to a licensing committee hearing. Hearings are rare (only around 1% of applications), and we offer a Hearing Package to help you prepare, respond to objections, and feel confident on the day.
