Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

What do I do after I pay the service fee?

You’ll need to complete a 10-minute questionnaire to tell us about your premises and how you plan to use it. Make sure to read all the steps on the portal carefully — they guide the entire process.

What do I do after completing the questionnaire?

Upload a hand-drawn or existing floor plan and optionally a video tour of the venue. Make sure to include key features like walls, exits, kitchen, WC, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and bar location. We can’t draft your official documents without this.

What documents do I need to upload?

(1) Layout sketch or plan, (2) Passport, (3) Passport-style selfie, (4) DBS certificate (must be less than one month old when submitting to the council). Only request a DBS check after you take the exam.

What do I do after I upload my floor plan and documents?

Our team will prepare your application pack. We’ll email you once it’s ready. We can’t send anything until all required documents are uploaded to the portal.

What happens after I submit to the council?

You’ll get an email confirming your application is complete. That email includes the consultation end date. If you don’t get it within 24 hours, contact us.

What do I do with the blue notice?

We’ll send it to you. Print it on light blue A4 paper and display it outside your venue. Email two photos (close-up and wide) to the council as proof.

What do I do with the blue notice?

Yes — the law requires you to display a notice outside your venue and place an ad in a local newspaper. We will connect you with our advertising partner, who will send a quote directly to you.

Do I have to advertise in a newspaper?

We’ll introduce you to Statutory Advertising, our ad partner. They’ll send you a quote and handle everything directly. You just need to pay their fee.

How long does it take to get the premises licence?

Once submitted, the council takes 28 days to make a decision on your application. We’ll prepare your full application pack within 24 hours, provided that you answer all the questions in the chat and upload a layout plan.

What happens if someone objects to my application? What does it mean?

When an objection is raised, the council will inform you and encourage you to resolve it by agreeing to additional conditions. This is common, and we can help you manage the process and respond quickly to avoid delays.

How much does the council charge?

The council usually charges £190 for the premises licence and £37 for the personal licence. These fees are not included in our service fees

Can my application get rejected?

For the premises licence, your application may be objected to by members of the public or responsible authorities (e.g. the police or council) during the 28-day consultation period. It will then normally go to a licensing committee hearing. Hearings are rare (only around 1% of applications), and we offer a Hearing Package to help you prepare, respond to objections, and feel confident on the day.
